In short

What does a Softr developer do?

A Softr developer designs and builds web apps on Softr — client portals, internal tools, CRMs and marketplaces — along with the data model, user roles and permissions behind them. Most pair Softr with Airtable as the back end and wire in payments, automations and third-party integrations.

What you get

  • A production Softr app on your own custom domain
  • An Airtable data model built to scale past the prototype
  • Role-based permissions so each user only ever sees their own records
  • Automations and integrations wired in — Stripe, Make, Zapier, Slack and more
  • Full handover: you own the base, the app, and everything else we build

Who this is for

  • Teams who picked Softr, got a prototype working, and hit the wall where the next feature needs a data model they don't have.
  • Founders and operators who want the app built properly the first time rather than rebuilt after the first fifty users.
  • Anyone quoted six figures and six months for a custom-coded app who suspects the problem is smaller than that.
  • Agencies who need a white-label build partner and a fixed price they can quote on top of.

What we typically build

01

Client portals

Branded logins where each customer sees only their own files, status and invoices — on your domain, not a third-party tool.

02

Internal tools and CRMs

Pipelines, job trackers and ops dashboards modelled on how your team actually works, with the hand-offs automated rather than remembered.

03

Marketplaces and membership sites

Two-sided platforms with distinct roles, listings, Stripe payments and gated member content.

04

MVPs and pilots

A live product with real logins and real data in 14 days, on a stack you can keep building on afterwards.

A Softr specialist vs a no-code generalist

Softr looks simple enough that any no-code generalist can quote on it. For a five-page prototype, that's true. The difference shows up in the parts that are hard to change afterwards.

 No-code generalistPortalcrafter
A five-page prototypeGenuinely fine, and cheaper. Hire the generalist. We'd tell you to, and have.
The data modelShaped around the screens in the demo.Designed first, because the schema decides what the app can ever do.
PermissionsFilters added page by page as they come up.Row-level access built into the base, tested against real accounts before launch.
What breaks laterA badly-modelled base is the usual reason an app gets rebuilt rather than extended — and it's invisible in a demo. The restructure is the job we're most often called in to do, so we build to avoid it.

Softr integrations we build

Softr's value is in what you connect it to. Every integration below is one we've shipped on a client build, not one copied off a feature list.

Stripe payments and subscriptions

One-off payments, recurring plans and access that flips automatically when a subscription starts or lapses. For usage-based billing and proration we reach for webhooks and Make.

Make and Zapier automations

The routing, reminders and record updates that happen between the pages — the work nobody should be doing by hand.

CRM and finance sync

Two-way syncs with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, QuickBooks and DocuSign, so your team stops re-keying the same record into two systems.

Slack, Outlook and Calendly

Notifications where your team already works, and booking flows that write straight back into the base.

OpenAI and custom code blocks

Where a build needs real JavaScript or an AI step, we write it rather than pretending the no-code path covers it.

When Softr is the wrong choice

Softr is excellent for read-heavy, permissioned apps: portals, directories, dashboards, internal tools. It gets awkward when you need deeply custom interactions, real-time collaboration, or logic that Airtable automations and Make can't express. If you're fighting the tool with a custom code block on every page, you've outgrown it — and we'll say so rather than sell you another sprint.

What it costs

Most Softr builds land in Portal Starter or Portal Pro. Marketplace logic and two-sided payments move up to Custom Build; if you're validating rather than launching, the 14-day MVP Sprint is the cheaper way in.

How it works

  1. 1

    Scope and fixed quote

Tell us what your users need to do. We map the roles, the data and the pages, and come back with a fixed price and timeline — usually within 24 hours.

  2. 2

    Model the data, then build

The Airtable base comes first, because the schema decides what the app can do. Then the Softr front end, your branding, and the automations.

  3. 3

    Launch and hand over

We ship to your domain and hand over the base and the app, with 14 days of free post-launch bug-fixes included.

What clients say

Vaibhav saved me. I tried everything to fix my Softr/Airtable portal and he got it sorted straight away, at a very reasonable rate. He finished exactly when he said he would and was great to deal with. I plan to hire him again for future automations.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Softr developer cost?

Between $2,500 and $9,000+ per project, quoted as a fixed price rather than hourly. A single-role portal starts at $2,500 and ships in 10 days; a multi-role app with integrations and full white-labelling is $5,500 over 3 weeks; marketplaces and complex logic start at $9,000 across 4–8 weeks.

How long does it take to build a Softr app?

Most builds ship in 2–4 weeks depending on scope, and an MVP sprint is a fixed 14 days. You get a fixed timeline up front, not an open-ended estimate.

Do I need an Airtable developer as well as a Softr developer?

Not with us — we build both halves. The Airtable schema and the Softr front end are designed together, which is what stops the app being limited by a data model that was never meant to serve it.

Can you take over an existing Softr build?

Yes. Fixing, extending and rescuing half-finished Softr and Airtable builds is a regular part of the work, and we scope it the same way — a fixed quote before anything starts.

Is Softr secure enough for client data?

Airtable is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and HIPAA-compliant on Enterprise plans, and Softr adds SSO, custom domains and granular role permissions. For regulated industries we structure the build to meet your compliance requirements from day one.

Will the app scale as we grow?

We structure the data model to scale to thousands of records and users, which Softr and Airtable comfortably handle. We only reach for custom code when the problem genuinely needs it.

What happens after launch?

Every build includes 14 days of free post-launch bug-fixes and you own everything we ship. Optional retainers start at $500/month for ongoing maintenance, new features and priority response.
