How to choose between Softr agencies
Almost every agency in this space says the same sentence: fast, fixed-price, no-code builds on Softr and Airtable. We say it too. Since the pitch doesn't distinguish anyone, here's what actually does — including the cases where you should pick someone else.
How do I choose between no-code agencies?
Ask three questions: is the price fixed before work starts, what happens in writing if delivery slips, and who owns the Airtable base at the end. Most agencies in this market pitch the same thing — fast, fixed-price, no-code — so the answers to those three separate them faster than the portfolios do.
When other Softr partners is the better choice
- You need scale. Agencies with large teams can run several workstreams at once; we're three people and we say no when we're full.
- You want a household-name reference list. Larger shops have more logos and more case studies with numbers attached.
- You need a stack we don't lead on — Bubble, Webflow-heavy marketing sites, or genuine custom engineering.
- You want an account manager as a single point of contact. We deliberately don't have one; you talk to the builder.
When we're the better choice
- You want the delivery date to carry a consequence. Fixed quote before work begins, 20% of the fee back if we're more than five working days late.
- You want to talk to the person building it rather than through someone.
- You want to own everything at the end — the Airtable base, the Softr app, the automations — with no licensing strings.
- Your project is one focused build rather than a programme, which is most of what this market actually needs.
Side by side
| other Softr partners / no-code agencies | Portalcrafter | |
|---|---|---|
| Quote | Varies. Some fixed, some estimated then revised. | Fixed, in writing, usually within 24 hours of scoping. |
| If delivery slips | Usually nothing contractual. | 20% of the project fee refunded past five working days. |
| Who you talk to | Often an account or project manager. | The senior builder doing the work. |
| Ownership | Usually yours; worth confirming in writing. | Airtable base, Softr app and automations transfer to your accounts on completion. |
| Scope changes | Change request, often at an hourly rate. | A written mini-quote before anything is built, so you decide now-or-v2. |
| Team size | Anywhere from one to dozens. | Three senior builders. A real constraint, and the reason we turn work away. |
Fixed quote before we start · 20% back if we're 5+ days late. You own the Airtable base and everything else we build.
Questions people ask
What should I ask every agency I shortlist?
Is the price fixed before work starts, and what triggers a change? What happens in writing if you deliver late? Who owns the Airtable base on completion? Who exactly will build it, and can I talk to them before signing? Can I see a portal you've shipped that's close to mine? Those five cover most of what goes wrong.
Are you an official Softr partner?
Our founder holds a verified listing in the Softr partner directory, linked from the footer of this site. Check it — and check anyone else's claim the same way, because partner status is easy to imply and easy to verify.
When would you tell us to go elsewhere?
When the problem genuinely needs custom engineering, when you need a team large enough to run parallel workstreams, or when we're full. We'd rather say that on the first call than take a build we can't do well.
Weighing something else?
Still deciding?
Tell us what you're weighing up. If the other option is the right one for you, we'll say so on the call — that's a cheaper conversation for both of us than the alternative.
