The problem

Hockey trainers had no central, credible place to be discovered. Players and parents relied on word-of-mouth and scattered social posts, while trainers had no structured way to present services, define coverage areas, or monetize their offering.

There was no onboarding funnel to capture leads before payment and no mechanism to follow up with people who dropped off mid-signup.

What we built

A scalable, public-facing marketplace on Softr that balances open discoverability with a conversion-focused monetization layer.

Visitors / players & parents browse without logging in; trainers list and manage profiles & subscriptions; admin oversees the platform.

• Public trainer directory that visitors can browse and filter without logging in, maximizing reach and SEO surface.
• Custom onboarding flow that captures trainer details before presenting subscription options, lifting conversion and enabling follow-up on incomplete sign-ups.
• Dynamic service listings supporting both virtual and in-person training, with conditional logic that differentiates the two.
• Geolocation capture and service-area logic, including premium-gated prompts for trainers offering nationwide virtual coaching.
• Two Stripe subscription tiers (Growth and Premier) with differing visibility and feature levels.
• Flexible profile display: individual coach vs. company branding, plus multi-select service configuration.

How we built it

The frontend was built in Softr on the native Softr Database for speed and scalability. The signup sequence was deliberately re-ordered to capture data before checkout so that abandoned sign-ups become recoverable leads.

CustomJS powered the dynamic field visibility, virtual-vs-in-person branching, and geolocation capture, while Stripe handled the two-tier subscription billing. Mailchimp and Zapier wired up follow-up and lifecycle messaging.
